DAY 1: BANGKOK - PHITSANULOK - SUKHOTHAI
Make your way (Own Transport) to Hualamphong Train Station in Bangkok. Take a train ride (approx. 5 hrs and incl. a snack) from Bangkok to Phitsanulok. On arrival our tour guide and driver will greet you. Go on to visit Wat Mahatat next to the Nan River, containing one of Thailand's most revered Buddha statues (Phra Buddhachinarat). If you wish to do so and time allows it, then you have the opportunity to visit the local folk museum and a Buddha factory as well. Then we continue driving for just over an hour to the neighbouring province of Sukhothai, where you will spend the night.
DAY 2: SUKHOTHAI - MAE SOT
In the morning, our first stop is to the Historical Park with its impressive temples, ruins and monuments dating back to the 13th century. Then leave Sukhothai and drive first to Tak. After lunch continue through some hills towards the west until you reach the border and market town of Mae Sot. Here observe the border trading at the Moei River between Thailand and Myanmar. Then go on to visit Wat Thai Wattanaram, a Burmese style temple with a giant 45 meter reclining Buddha statue. Spend the night in Mae Sot.
DAY 3: MAE SOT - MAE SARIANG
After breakfast take a stroll over to the local market, which is one of the more bustling markets in the country. Thais, Burmese, Chinese, Indians and Karen trading vegetables, fruits and all kinds of other goods. Then it's time to leave Mae Sot and head further North. For some time the road follows the Moei River and later passes through the mountainous wilderness. A few stops are made en route, first at the village of Mae Kasa with its hot springs and later at Mae Usu cave and the neigbouring Karen hill tribe village. Near Tha Song Yang you will see a big Karen refugee camp right on the border line. In the late afternoon arrive at Mae Sariang. Here we take side trip to Wat Chom Thong on a small hill top overlooking Mae Sariang and the surrounding country side. We stay overnight in this quaint town on the banks of the Yuam River.
DAY 4: MAE SARIANG - CHIANG MAI
In the morning travel on and head towards Mae Chaem, a village at the foot of Doi Inthanon mountain within the Doi Inthanon National Park. We make some brief stops en route at small villages and view points. From Mae Chaem we drive up to the mountain peak (2565 m) of Doi Inthanon. See the royal pagodas and take a short walk through some dense forest. Continue to a Hmong hill tribe village which is host to a royal farming project.
