ITINERARY 

 

DAY 1: BANGKOK - PHITSANULOK - SUKHOTHAI
 
Make your way (Own Transport) to Hualamphong Train Station in Bangkok. Take a train ride (approx. 5 hrs and incl. a snack) from Bangkok to Phitsanulok. On arrival our tour guide and driver will greet you. Go on to visit Wat Mahatat next to the Nan River, containing one of Thailand's most revered Buddha statues (Phra Buddhachinarat). If you wish to do so and time allows it, then you have the opportunity to visit the local folk museum and a Buddha factory as well. Then we continue driving for just over an hour to the neighbouring province of Sukhothai (the first and former capital of Ancient Thailand), where you will spend the night.
 
DAY 2: SUKHOTHAI - LAMPANG
 
After breakfast, start your tour at Sukhothai's Historical Park with its impressive temples, monuments and ruins dating back to the 13th century. Moving forward we make another stop at Si Satchanalai and reach Lampang in the afternoon. Visit Wat Sri Chum, a Burmese style temple. At the nearby fruit market you can taste some of the exotic fruits. Then transfer to your hotel. Overnight in Lampang.
 
DAY 3: LAMPANG - CHIANG RAI
 
In the morning we make our first stop of the day at the Elephant Conservation Centre & Hospital. Here you get the chance to watch these giants take their daily bath, followed by an opportunity to see the elephants in action when they haul logs and work the forest. Then it's time to leave Lampang and drive to Phayao. Have your lunch break at the picturesque Phayao Lake. Travel on further to the north and stop at the famous and beautiful Wat Rong Khun (White temple). Finally arrive in Chiang Rai, where you will spend the night. In the evening take the chance to visit Chiang Rai's small but colorful night and food market.
 
DAY 4: CHIANG RAI - GOLDEN TRIANGLE - THATON
 
Today our first stop is in Chiang Saen, the former royal town and then continue along the Mekong River to the well known Golden Triangle, where the borders of Thailand, Laos and Myanmar meet. Have a look in to the small Opium Museum followed by a boat trip on the Mekong with a stop on route at the Laotian river island of Don Sao. Continue to Mae Sai, the market and border town which boards neighbouring Myanmar. Take a stroll over the bustling border market. Later travel through the mountainous wilderness of Doi Maesalong, where you will pass the Akha, Yao and Lisu hill tribe villages. We make stops to obersve some of these villages. On the mountain top take a walk around the Kuomingtan Chinese village, surrounded by tea plantations. Here you get a chance to taste some green tea. In the late afternoon arrive in Thaton. Here we visit Wat Thaton on a small hill top with it's giant Buddha images and great views. We stay overnight on the banks of the Kok River.
 
DAY 5: THATON - CHIANG MAI
 
After breakfast it is time to continue your journey towards Chiang Mai. First visit a traditional rice mill near Fang and later explore a mystical cave temple in Chiang Dao. Then enjoy a one hour leisurely trip down the river on a bamboo raft. Lunch is followed by a stop at a local country side market and at an orchid farm close to Chiang Mai. Then we arrive  at the northern capital of Chiang Mai City by late afternoon and spend the night here.
 
DAY 6: CHIANG MAI
 
Sightseeing tour in Chiang Mai, which includes the older part of the city with two of its many ancient temples, as well as the famous Suthep hill top temple, the landmark of Chiang Mai. Later we have a look at some of the well known traditional handicraft factories in Bosang like traditional paper umbrella paintings, woodcarving, lacquer ware, silver ware, teak crafts etc. The rest of the afternoon is at your leisure, take this opportuinity to shop or relax at your hotel. Spend one more night in Chiang Mai.
 
DAY 7: CHIANG MAI
 
Your tour concludes on Day 7. Return back to Bangkok by train or plane (at own expense) or continue travelling.

 

 

Note:  The rates are per person in Australian Dollars (AUD) inclusive of all taxes. To change Bangkok - Phitsanulok leg to Plane surcharge of AUD 70 Per Person applies (Plane ride is 40 minutes departing from Don Muang Airport in Bangkok).
