ITINERARY 

 

06:00 hrs: Leaving Bangkok you will head out towards Kanchanaburi Province. The distance is around 128 km's and the journey takes about 2 - 3 hours.

 

At Kanchanaburi you will visit the Thailand- Burma Railway Centre. This is an interactive museum, information and research facility dedicated to the history of the notorious World War II Thailand-Burma Railway. The Centre is fully air-conditioned and offers visitors an educational and moving experience.

 

The Thailand-Burma Railway, dubbed the ‘Death Railway’, ran 415 km's (250 miles) from Ban Pong in Thailand to Thanbuyuzayat in Burma. It was built by the Japanese Imperial Army to supply their troops in Burma and support their planned invasion of India.

 

Using forced labour, including about 60,000 Allied Prisoners of War (POWs) and a much greater number of Malays and other Asians, the railway was completed in 1943. The POWs and other laborers endured appalling conditions and many thousands perished. It is said that ‘every sleeper laid on the railway cost a human life’.

 

At Kanchanaburi you will also see the Bridge on the River Kwai, a part of the Death Railway and immortalized in a novel and film in the 1950s. Still in use today, the Kwai Bridge was the target of frequent Allied bombing raids during World War II and was rebuilt after the war ended. The curved spans of the bridge are the original sections.

 

You will have lunch at Kanchanaburi at a restaurant near the Bridge.

From the River Kawi Bridge you will be taken to an Elephant Camp just a short distance away. Climb on an elephant for a 30-minute trek through the jungle to explore a local waterfall.

After your delightful elephant ride you will board a bamboo raft for a half-hour scenic trip on the river.

 

Leaving the boat, hop on to a train for a 45-minute journey along the Death Railway from Wang Pho to Ta Kilane. This takes you across the infamous River Kwai Bridge and through the thick rain forest of Thailand. At Ta Kilane your mini-bus will pick you up and drive you back to Bangkok.

 

At the end of the excursion, you will be dropped back at your hotel in Bangkok.
